Donna Bour began her career in event management nearly 20 years ago as a development professional organizing special fundraising events including dinners, banquets, and balls as well as unique events like an international progressive dinner and a donor acknowledgement event that featured a backstage tour of a local theater.
In May of 2001 she launched Bour Associates and, since that time, has coordinated and managed the highly successful Venture Outdoors festival which has reached attendance of 7,000 since its inception in September of 2001, planned and implemented a treasure hunt on the North Side to promote a local family theater organization, and organized a wine-tasting fundraiser for a local nonprofit. She has also assisted with sponsorship development for the Pittsburgh Vintage Grand Prix Association and served as exhibit and sponsor coordinator for the Sixth International Conference on Head and Neck Cancer.
In July of 2005 she ran the CITGO Bassmaster Classic which was held in Pittsburgh. Under her direction, the event drew more than 80,000 people to Pittsburgh for the week's activities. Since then she has planned and managed the annual Head of the Ohio Regatta held on Pittsburgh's North Shore which annually draws thousands of competitors from the eastern half of the country as well as Canada and brings thousands more to the finish line to cheer on the races; served as Event Manager for the Highmark Childhood Obesity Summit, a one-day educational program and public exposition that drew over 7,000 people to the David L. Lawrence Convention Center; and for two years planned and managed Celebrate Monroeville, a community event featuring local businesses, restaurants, and children's programs and activities. She also assisted with sponsor development for an international conference of city/county managers held in Pittsburgh in October of 2007, recruited sponsors for the 2007 Governor's Outdoor Conference, and coordinated a series of events for the Rachel Carson Homestead Association 2007 centennial celebration including a gala at the Heinz History Center featuring the Indigo Girls and a symposium at Carnegie Mellon University.
She is currently working on the eighth annual Venture Outdoors Festival, recruiting sponsors for BikeFest, and planning and managing the 2008 Head of the Ohio Regatta as well as a week of activities that are part of “A Pittsburgh 250 Grand Opening Event.”
Ms. Bour earned a Bachelor's degree in Business Administration from the University of Pittsburgh in 1986 and a Master's degree in Public Management from Carnegie Mellon University in 1994. In addition to her event and meeting planning work, Ms. Bour continues to serve as a consultant to local nonprofits on fundraising and development programs and completed a "how to" manual on festival planning and management - an offshoot of her work with the Venture Outdoors festival. She has also conducted a workshop on event planning for the Local Government Academy and Sustainable Pittsburgh. She serves on the board of the newly formed Environmental Charter School at Frick Park, volunteers for the annual Run Around the Square, and chairs the board of Neighbors Unite Wilkinsburg (NUW), a local political action committee dedicated to improving local government.
